Air Liquide, Hyundai Expand Partnership to Scale Hydrogen Globally

Advancing Hydrogen Infrastructure, Mobility and Clean-Energy Deployment
Hydrogen applications across mobility, heavy transport, logistics and clean-energy systems continue to expand, driving the need for large-scale production, storage, transportation and utilization. Air Liquide and Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) are strengthening their long-standing collaboration through an expanded Memorandum of Understanding announced during the Hydrogen Council CEO Summit in Seoul. The agreement aims to accelerate the growth of a complete hydrogen ecosystem in Europe, South Korea and the United States.

The renewed partnership combines HMG’s position in fuel-cell mobility with Air Liquide’s expertise in hydrogen production and infrastructure. Together, they will work to scale hydrogen use across heavy-duty transport, public transit and logistics while supporting national carbon-neutrality goals.

Building Integrated Hydrogen Ecosystems Across Regions
The collaboration will establish major hydrogen hubs across the three regions to enable ecosystem expansion. Key focus areas include infrastructure development such as refueling networks and storage capacity; creation of reliable supply chains covering low-carbon and renewable hydrogen production, transportation, distribution and utilization; and deployment of fuel cell electric vehicles ranging from logistics fleets to public buses and port operations.

The partnership has already delivered measurable progress in South Korea. Hyundai has deployed more than 2,000 hydrogen buses and 37,000 passenger FCEVs, with further scaling planned through 2026. The companies have also supported refueling-network growth through Hynet and Kohygen and strengthened local supply chains, including the inauguration of the 450-bar Lotte-Air Liquide Ener’Hy filling center in Daesan.

Strengthening Global Momentum Through Hydrogen Council Leadership
Both companies serve as co-chairs of the Hydrogen Council, reinforcing their role in advancing international hydrogen collaboration. Their leadership supports global policy alignment, industry standards and coordinated efforts to accelerate hydrogen deployment across sectors.

Driving the Hydrogen Transition Forward
By combining technical expertise, industrial capabilities and mobility leadership, Air Liquide and Hyundai Motor Group are positioned to deliver significant progress in hydrogen innovation, infrastructure development and fuel-cell adoption. The expanded partnership marks a key step toward scaling the global hydrogen economy and enabling broader decarbonization across energy and transportation systems.
