ABB’s Kabeldon cable distribution cabinets are a familiar sight in neighborhoods and by roadsides across Northern Europe, providing rugged all-weather protection for utility Low Voltage distribution systems. With the launch of the Kabeldon NXT cabinet, utilities now have a more sustainable sourcing option that offers a carbon manufacturing footprint that is 29 percent lower.
The steel in the Kabeldon NXT is made using 100% renewable energy and 75% recycled materials. This environmentally conscious approach results in a reduction of 78 kg of CO2 emissions during the products manufacturing phase.
For transparency and credibility, the Kabeldon NXT has a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). It will also be part of the ABB EcoSolutions™ program, which gives customers easy access to extra information about a product’s circularity performance across its complete lifecycle.
Linda Wennberg, Sustainable Energy Leader, ABB Electrification, said: "The path to a net zero future needs innovation at every point in our grids to help them run leaner and cleaner. With the Kabeldon NXT, ABB is making a lower-carbon footprint an option for essential infrastructure: our people are passionate about helping our utility customers put more and more sustainable solutions into service for local communities.”
With decades of manufacturing expertise and millions of installations across Northern Europe, the Kabeldon NXT maintains the high reliability standards of the existing range. Its full IP2X classification ensures safety for both installers and the surrounding environment. The modular design allows for easy customization, making it adaptable to various installation needs.
