How MAN and Koinè Are Electrifying Beverage Logistics for Sanpellegrino
Decarbonizing heavy transport requires long-range electric vehicles, optimized charging infrastructure and operational alignment with high-frequency logistics routes. MAN Truck & Bus Italia has delivered the first two eTGX electric trucks to Koinè, initiating a multi-year fleet transition that could integrate up to 50 vehicles for Sanpellegrino’s distribution network. Electricity for future fleet operations will be supplied by photovoltaic systems installed at Koinè’s depots, supporting a shift toward zero-emission logistics.

The two eTGX units mark the start of a broader strategy to reduce environmental impact while maintaining daily transport performance. Their long range and fast-charging capability allow direct integration into existing beverage distribution cycles without altering established schedules or delivery volumes.

Role of Renewable Energy and Fleet Transition Planning
Koinè is expanding its sustainability strategy through the construction of a solar-powered logistics center in Levate capable of generating up to 5 MW. The company intends to electrify one-third of its fleet within three years to provide reliable, lower-emission transport for customers such as the Sanpellegrino Group.

Initial deployment covers routes between Sanpellegrino’s production facilities and the Madone and Levate depots. With an expected annual distance of roughly 250,000 km for the first two vehicles, routes were selected to maximize range, streamline charging cycles and demonstrate operational feasibility at scale.

Industry Collaboration to Build Charging Infrastructure
The project includes support from MOON POWER Italia, which provides charging solutions for commercial fleets, and MAN Transport Solutions, which assists operators in designing energy and infrastructure strategies for electromobility. Collective engagement from vehicle manufacturers, logistics operators and energy specialists forms the foundation for expanding electric heavy-haul transport across Italy.

Technical Highlights of the eTGX Deployment
The MAN eTGX 20.544 4x2 LL SA EB trucks feature a 400 kW electric motor (544 hp) paired with six battery packs totaling 534 kWh, enabling a range of up to 570 km without intermediate charging. The long-haul cab includes advanced safety systems and comfort features suited for extended operations. Each vehicle is delivered with a five-year maintenance plan and MAN DigitalServices to support efficient electric-fleet management.

This deployment demonstrates how coordinated electrification strategies, route optimization and renewable-energy integration can advance sustainable logistics for high-volume beverage distribution.
